We have developed the Fight for Scotland’s Nature website for Scottish Environment LINK which is part of a campaign for a Scottish Environment Act to secure environmental protections currently provided by EU Environment Laws.
This WordPress-based website makes extensive use of a custom page layout system, which allows the client to easily create complex layouts. Our base theme LGD Callanish now includes a “Feature Page” layout system as standard and this was extended to provide additional layout formats for the client.
The layout system provides one or more Panels which can have a background image or colour, and within each panel, multiple content blocks can be added. Panel background images can be set to scroll with the panel or as static images. In combination, a mix of scrolling and static backgrounds can provide interesting design effects.

We also modified the colour picker within the layout system to provide the colour palette developed for the campaign and ensure that text and background colours set by site editors keep to the house style.
In addition to the layout options provided by the Feature Page system, a header / background image can be set for each page within the Page editor.
The site is fully responsive with a mobile-first stylesheet and image use based on screen size to avoid mobile devices. Avoiding downloading unnecessarily large images saves bandwidth and speeds up page loading.
The site also features a front page “slider” which displays a series of banner images provided by the client.
