It’s been a while since the last news post. The lack of any new sites to report doesn’t mean we’ve not been busy.
As Lynx Graphic Design approaches its 20th anniversary we are mainly focused on supporting our current clients: keeping their websites up and running; adding new features; improving security; keeping them informed about issues like Let’s Encrypt and changes to WordPress such as the forthcoming Gutenberg block-based editor which will replace the Classic content editor.
But we are always on the look out for interesting new web development projects, and launched two sites this week, with a third coming soon.
The first of these, Fishing for Litter, will act as the hub for a European campaign to clean up our seas, linking to a number of country-specific sites. It is a one-page website using our LGD onepage theme, which allows the client to create a series of “panels” for the page layout. Each panel is highly customisable and can include a fixed or scrolling background image, and blocks of text with various formatting options.
The second site is a revamp of an existing, five-year-old site, Nuclear Transparency Watch. The site is a WordPress multi-site, with separate English and French language sites. The two sites have separate content but use the same theme. This arrangement is different to that used in other multi-language sites we’ve worked on, and presented some new challenges. Our LGD Callanish theme was already coded to be translatable, with four language translations already in place. French, though, was not one of them, but this was easily added thanks to the Loco Translate plugin. That, together with the Genesis Translations plugin which provides translation for the text generated by the Genesis Framework used by the theme, and WordPresses own translatability, means that the language used for code generated content (text like “Read More”) and within the admin area on each site is controlled by the WordPress language setting. Translations that were hard coded into the previous theme were removed, making any future development of the site more straightforward.
The majority of our clients are environmental groups, but we have developed sites covering topics ranging from Acupuncture to Zebra paintings. So if you are looking for experienced, affordable web developers who provide a high level of customer service, do get in touch.
