We have developed a website for the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland, a new organisation set up to assist people in understanding and exercising their rights in environmental law.
Heedi Design created the group’s logo and branding and we developed a custom WordPress website using our LGD Callanish base theme.
Covid-19 lockdown came just as work on the site was starting, but thanks to Zoom we were able to hold meetings with ERCS and Heedi to progress the project without too much delay.
Accessibility was an important consideration and the branding colour palette was modified slightly so colours could be used for headlines and meet WCAG AA guidelines for text contrast ratios.
Our “Tiles” system, part of the Callanish theme, provides styling for Post listings – on the front page and in News and Blog categories – and custom Tile blocks for use elsewhere on the site such as the Photo Credits (https://www.ercs.scot/site-credits/). Further custom blocks were created to meet the client’s requirements. The Bio block provides an easy way to add photos, names, titles and mini-bios for the ERCS staff and board members (https://www.ercs.scot/our-people/).
The site uses Matomo, an open source alternative to Google Analytics, providing better, more transparent privacy for site visitors while still providing the web statistics required to monitor and improve site use.
